Climbing Cotopaxi and Climbing Chimborazo in 5 days
This Cotopaxi Climbing tour is the perfect combination for already acclimatized people.
During the 5 days we'll climb the 2 most impressing mountains of our country; Cotopaxi and Chimborazo. But according to our experiences one of the main factors to reach the summits is a previous acclimatization. To those who are not acclimatized we recommend to come some days earlier in order to get used to altitude or to do some acclimatization hikes already in their country.
Day 1: Quito - Cotopaxi hut 4.800m
We'll leave Quito in the morning by car and after one and a half hours we'll get to the Cotopaxi National Park. We'll hike one more hour until we'll reach the Jose Ribas refuge (4800 m). After doing some exercises in the glacier we'll have dinner and prepare the ascent. -/L/D
Day 2: Refuge - Cotopaxi Summit 5.897m - Cuello de Luna
We'll get up at midnight and after 7 hours we'll reach the summit. After the descent we'll rest a bit in the refuge and then we'll continue to Cuello de Luna Hostelery. B/L/D
Day 3: Cuello de Luna Hotel
This day you can relax, doing activities near the hostelry like biking, horseback riding or enjoing its other facilities. B/-/D
Day 4: Cuello de Luna - High camp on Chimborazo
Our transport will take us to the Hermanos Carrel Refuge, located at an altitude of 4,800 meters. From there, we will begin our ascent towards our high-altitude camp at 5,300 meters, where a refreshing hot tea will be waiting for us. This will be a perfect moment to unwind, organize our gear for the upcoming climb, and enjoy a hearty dinner before settling in for a restful night. B/L/D
Day 5: High camp- Summit Chimborazo (6268 m) - Quito
Shortly after midnight we drink hot tea and eat something. Well prepared and well acclimatized, we begin the ascent to the highest peak in Ecuador. After 5 to 6 hours we reach the 6228 m high Vor Veintimilla peak. We traversed the long summit plateau, crossed a trough, and finally reached Whymper's summit at 6,268 m, the closest point on earth to the sun. For the descent we plan about 4 to 5 hours. Then we will return to Quito. B/L/-
